The AIKOM (Abroad in Komaba) program at the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo, provides liberal arts curriculum focused on Japan and its place in the world. Students undertake Japanese language training with full-time, native instructors. In addition, students choose from a set of pre-determined courses, taught in English by University of Tokyo faculty, that address aspects of modern Japanese society, politics, economy and culture in global perspective. With approval from AIKOM, students with demonstrated language proficiency may be able to take regularly offered university courses in addition to AIKOM classes. Directed independent study is also available for those wishing to pursue academic interests beyond the program offerings.
