The Sangha River Network

The Network

As of September 1999, the Sangha River Network (SRN) is officially affiliated with Yale University’s Council on African Studies of the Yale Center for International and Area Studies (YCIAS).  These programs have provided considerable administrative and financial support for our personnel and operations at Yale. SRN is also supported by the University of Orléans/ ERMES/IRD Laboratory  in France including generous support of our SRN Student Coordinators from Central Africa. The majority of our financial support through the year 2000 has been generously provided by the Biodiversity Support Program (BSP) based in Washington, DC and YCIAS.  Additional support has been received from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Our vision is to be a network of international professionals actively involved with local communities and national governments of the Sangha River Region, equatorial Africa, in developing a comprehensive understanding of that transborder area’s resource bases and social relations of resource use, in order to affect innovative, adaptive, and appropriate policy, education, and conservation action.

This vision is guided by both our International Steering Committee and our Faculty Advisory Committee at Yale. Our administrative and editorial activities are implemented by a team of student coordinators based at Yale and Orléans, who work directly with SRN Co-Directors. The SRN vision will be achieved through collaborative support involving our members, partners, institutions, and initiatives. For more details concerning our proposed plan of activities see our Strategic Plan section.
