"..the world is divided into two parts - those who have seen the Taj
Mahal, and those who have not. I am proud to be in the first..."
(Robert D. Blackwill - former US ambassador to India - July 29, 2003)
The world's largest democracy and the world's second most populous nation, India has made important contributions in the international scene. It is almost impossible for us to give a complete picture of India; a country with 17 official languages, more than 800 different dialects, and a variety of religions, customs and traditions. However, we are carrying this section on our website in an attempt to serve the following purposes:
- to explain the festivals and traditions celebrated by ISA for the benefit of the university community.
- to give a brief overview of India for the casual visitor (and to direct him/her to more detailed websites).
