The Indian Students' Association is a group of graduate and undergraduate students of Indian origin studying at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The association aims to create a social network amongst the Indian community on campus and give them an opportunity to continue enjoying typically Indian customs and traditions, here in the US. The association also aims to participate in various activities organised by the University along with other student organisations, thereby contributing to the diversity on campus.
The day-to-day functioning of the association is managed by a board of volunteers. Our activities range from celebrating Indian festivals such as 'Diwali' and 'Holi' to organising camping trips and picnics. We organise a cultural show along with our 'Diwali' celebrations and also have occasional dance parties. We take part in University-wide activities, such as the 'Goodness Day' celebrations or the 'Kid's Fair'. We also organise teams to participate in volleyball and cricket tournaments (whenever the weather can afford it !).
A large portion of our efforts are directed towards making arrangements for new students who are coming from India to pursue their studies at the University. We go to great lengths to secure housing for them, find room-mates and even arrange pickups from the DTW international airport. Most of these activities are concentrated towards the start of the Fall semester. At other times, we facilitate information exchange on sublets and room-mates requirements through the 'Classifieds' section on our website.
