International Travel Information and Registry

This website provides information about the University's international safety and security travel policy for faculty, students and staff traveling abroad for academic or other University-related purposes.

The University maintains a secure International Travel Registry where any traveler can submit itinerary and contact information. This can facilitate communication in the event of an emergency. Faculty and students traveling abroad as a group are required to register. Schools, colleges and other University units may also require persons to register who are traveling internationally for academic or other University purposes. All University members are strongly encouraged to register before departure.

The University offers a low-cost health insurance policy for international travel. This insurance is required for undergraduates participating in any UM-sponsored international activity. It also is strongly recommended for all other travelers, including faculty, staff, and other students. Insurance should be purchased before traveling abroad. Further information about the insurance policy is available. To purchase the University's travel abroad health insurance policy, travel information must be registered first.

US State Department travel warnings and international travel health information from the Centers for Disease Control give current notices about international safety, security and health conditions. The World Health Organization also provides information about health conditions. Other travel information, resources and tips are available from the University of Michigan's International Center, the Office of International Programs, University Health Services, and HRAA Research and Travel.
