Login to the Careers website, and select the UPLOAD RESUME option under Manage Resumes. Uploading your resume as a Microsoft Word document is the recommended method and will allow hiring managers to receive and view your resume in its original format.
I don’t have a resume, what should I do?
You can create a resume by clicking on the “Create Resume” option on the site and follow the steps outlined in the Resume Creation Wizard. Please note that when using this option, the content and format of the resume can not be modified in any way. This method is only recommended when you are unable to upload a formatted copy of your resume.

The system will accept resumes created in a .DOC (Word), .TXT (Plain Text File) or .HTML (web page) **Please note: Some versions of Microsoft Word create .rtf (Rich Text Format) and .DOCX documents. These are not compatible with our system and will cause an error message during the upload attempt.

Yes, you can. When applying for a position, incorporate a cover letter, and any other information required, as part your resume document. If you upload your resume, please make sure the cover letter and the resume are combined a single document as only one document may be submitted per job posting. If using the Resume Creation Wizard, use the Other section to add your cover letter information.

1) Disable any pop up blocker software that is currently active on your computer.
2) Make sure that your resume is in a file format accepted by the website (.DOC, .HTML or .TXT).
3) Make certain that the operating system software and internet browser you are using to access the site is currently supported. A list of supported software can be found on the site main page at www.umjobs.org.
Note: Some home versions of Microsoft Word will save files as an .RTF (Rich Text Format) or .DOCX file. You’ll need to save the file again using the .DOC format selection from your Word program.

Searching for jobs
How do I search for Jobs?
We recommend the “START HERE” search feature. You can select from various categories for your search. When looking for jobs in specific fields of work, the “Career Family” search is most valuable. Selecting the City field is optional and will narrow your results. For more information on Career Families, reference the U-M Career Family Navigator Tool.
How do I search for jobs at a specific campus location?
When searching for job postings by campus location use the START HERE feature and select the “Starts With” option from the drop down menu in the CAMPUS field. In the next box use the following criteria:
Type “A” for Ann Arbor Campus
Type “H” for Health System
Type “D” for Dearborn Campus
Type “F” for Flint Campus
How do I search for Part Time jobs?
Use the KEYWORD SEARCH to search for part time jobs. Enter “part time” in the search box using the quotation marks around the search word.
How do I improve the results of keyword searches?
Keyword searches look for word matches within the job title and descriptive text of the job posting. General words may be found in many postings. If you search two words, such as customer service, your search will include all jobs with the words customer or service in them. Try using quote marks (e.g., “customer service”) to search for an exact match of only those postings containing both words used together. You can also choose to use the “START HERE” function to select categories that will narrow your search.

While the Careers at Michigan jobs site displays detailed postings for jobs currently open, the Compensation & Classification site offers information and links to tools that will show you brief market descriptions for virtually every job classification at U-M.
Is there a way to continue my review of jobs where I left off?
Using the back arrow on your browser instead of the “return to jobs list” will return you to the last page of jobs you were viewing. Note: Be sure to clear the cache files from your computer after every session when using the Back Arrow to navigate.
How can I look for jobs that have been newly posted today?
One way to do this is to run your search and then sort by date by clicking on the up arrow next to the date column. You can also create and save your favorite searches and, if you enable receiving emails, you will receive an email message each time a job is posted that meets your search criteria.
