Directions to the Diag

Sunday you're welcome to join us for a relaxed day of juggling outdoors on the diag (map).

The Diag is a large, grassy, tree-shaded quadrangle in the middle of the University of Michigan Central Campus. It's located about 200 yards south of the Burton Memorial Tower, an 8-story Bell Tower which is visible from many points around town. The Diag is located just east of State Street and just north of South University Street, about 2 miles north of the I-94/State Street Exit (Exit 177), but you can't really see it from those streets because it's surrounded by academic buildings. We usually juggle on the northeast side of the Diag where there's more shade and open space. (The Diag is about 2 blocks west of the Church Street Parking Structure.)

Typically, street parking is easy to find close to the diag Sundays this time of year.

From State Street: Find the intersection of State Street and South University. These two streets meet in front of the Michigan Union, about 2 miles north of the I-94/State Street Exit (Exit 177). From State Street, head east on South University Street for three or four blocks to Church Street. Turn left; East Hall is located on the west side of Church Street, just north of South University Street. (East Hall is approximately 2 blocks east of the Diag.) We recommend that you park in the Church Street Parking Structure, directly across the street from East Hall.

Church Street Parking Structure

For the diag, we recommend that you park in the Church Street Parking Structure, directly across the street from East Hall. You can park there for free on Sundays, although you may not park on the first level. The Diag is about 2 blocks west of the Church Street Parking Structure.

Other Transportation

The nearest major airport is Detroit Metro Airport (DTW).

Ann Arbor also has Amtrak and Greyhound stations.

See the AATA website for information on local buses. To get to Wide World Sports from downtown, take bus 15 from Blake Transit Center (at 5th and William) to Scio Church and Waltham, then walk west (over the freeway) to Oak Valley Drive, and turn left; the sports center will be farther down on your right. Total walking distance is about two thirds of a mile.
