Really, Really Deep Questions
In the News
Parting ’Tis Sweet, Sweet Sorrow
It is time, dear NEH aficionados, for me to go on hiatus, or in the common dude’s vernacular, a vacation. It had been my hope to post another muse before leaving but, alas, time is a such a limited and precious entity. I had also hoped to post some exciting personal news (no, Hayden didn’t accept Marriage Proposal #437), but that, too, is beginning to look like a washout. Later, Vaders. [21 July 2008]
Hayden’s Favorite Hockey Team To Witness History
The Ann Arbor News announced, “Unless there is a change before the schedule is released in mid-July, the [Detroit] Red Wings will open the regular season at home on Oct. 9 against Toronto [Maple Leafs]. The game, which will feature the Stanley Cup banner-raising ceremony, will be shown on Versus and a special edition of Hockey Night in Canada.
Hayden, dear. I’m available if you need a date that night. I promise to sing “O Canada!”
with you.

Just for the fun of it, let’s compare my favorite NHL team (Detroit Red Wings) to Hayden’s (Toronto Maple Leafs):
| 2007-2008
Regular Season NHL Standings (as of 4/08/2008) |
|||||||||||
| Rank | Team | GP | W | L | OT | PTS | GF | GA | Home | Away | L10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 82 | 54 | 21 | 7 | 115 | 257 | 184 | 29-9-3 | 25-12-4 | 7-2-1 | |
| 24 | 82 | 36 | 35 | 11 | 83 | 231 | 260 | 18-17-6 | 18-18-5 | 4-5-1 | |
| Comments: Congrats to captain Nicklas Lidstrom, Conn Smythe winner Henrik Zetterberg, and the Detroit Red Wings on their 11th Stanley Cup. Believe it or not, Toronto has more: 13 Stanleys. Fourteen, if you count this one. [p-clinched Presidents’ Trophy (best record in NHL)] | |||||||||||
