Analytic Summary
Diagram showing the general PEBBLE production method. (Note that DNP = PEBBLE)
Some nanotechnology production techniques require incredible amounts of time and expertise to accomplish. In contrast, PEBBLE production is rooted in basic chemistry methods which in principle are not more complicated than a freshman lab procedure. Of course, we do a lot of work investigating little changes in contents and techniques which make a big difference in the end as far as how well the sensors work in different applications. But, the basic technology is quite cheap, easy and fast.

The example shown here is used for polyacrylamide PEBBLEs. Water in oil microemulsions are used for the synthesis, then the PEBBLEs are concentrated and washed in Amicon tangential filtration systems and vacuum filters. Dry powder can be stored for a very long time before resuspension and use for sensor work.
