HELLO!

Welcome to the KOPITONEZ website! We are officially known as a co-ed Asian-interest a cappella group at the University of Michigan, but in all honesty, we're just a bunch of arm-flailing, nonsense-loving dorks who love to sing (and oftentimes eat midnight burritos) together. If we're not busily hammering out our next songs for performance, we're usually quoting our favorite Youtube vids ("Planet Unicorn ... Heyyy!"), discussing the intricacies of plot development and character relationships in numerous anime series, or just plain ol' shenandangling each other. (It is exactly what it sounds like. ...Whatever that may be.) But yes, we are an Asian-interest a cappella group, and we were all brought together by the fact that we could bring our own Asian identity and share it on stage by singing. We are like a well-oiled machine (from your favorite mecha series), and we're not ashamed to show it! So come check us out the next time we perform!

"What It Means To Be a Kopi"

Tai-Hsing Chou "Never in my life had I thought I would end up joining an a cappella group, as I was always the musically challenged child. But after a brief audition, Kopitonez opened its arms to me, and I had been part of the family since. I tell everyone that whatever you put into Kopitonez, you will get back with interest. That is because out of all the organizations I've been affiliated with, this work-hard-play-hard group has been the most rewarding. Under the challenges of practices, pressures of performances, and familial encouragements, I gained a deeper understanding of many life lessons. I learned more about the relationship between team success and individual success. I learned more about the balance between leading and following. And I learned more about myself as a person. To me, Kopitonez wasn't just the a cappella group that I joined during college. Kopitonez was a group of trusting friends, who helped me complete my college experience."
