NODA
New Orleans Distric Attorney
This project aims to study bias in the judicial process. We have data which follows defendents from the moment
they're arrested until the time they're sentenced. With at total of 500K+ records, as well as, demographics
like the race, age, political affiliation of prosecutors and judges, we are working with a truly unique dataset.
Our current focus has been on prosecutorial declination, but future work will study judge/defendent/prosecutor
race interactions. An interesting note: this data set comes from Harry Connick Sr., father of the famous Jazz
Singer/ Actor.
This is joint work with JJ Prescott at the University of Michigan Law School, Kathy Barnes at University of
Arizona Law School, Mark Miller at University of Arizona Law School, and Ronald Wright at Wake Forest University Law School.
