Here you will find information about the
MyServer services that are
provided by the LAN/NOS and Groupware Services (LNGS) team.
LNGS is a group within ITCS that provides
leadership for the UM campus
community in the selection, deployment, and integration of Network
Operating Systems and Groupware products. LNGS also maintains selected
services that support the UM campus community. For more information,
choose the 'LNGS Home' link in left column of this page.
MyServer is a service offered by
ITD-LAN/NOS/Groupware Services (ITD-LNGS) providing centralized file
and print services on NetWare. ITD-LNGS provides file space on
fault-tolerant NetWare servers while allowing department staff to
create and manage user access to the file space. The MyServer servers
are located on a 100MB switched network at the Arbor Lakes Data Center in a secure and conditioned space.
If you have questions about the MyServer service and would like to speak to someone about it, please feel free to contact myserver.support@umich.edu or call MaryBeth Stuenkel at 763-8196.
MyOwnServer is the flavor of MyServer for
units that want more than just file space. Units who subscribe to
MyOwnServer are provided with a server dedicated to their unit. Because
this server is not shared with other departments, there is more
flexibility in what the unit can do with the server. For example,
MyOwnServer admins can take advantage of the inventory capabilities of
Zen for Desktops. This feature requires sole use of the server
deploying it.
MySharedServer is a more economical flavor of
MyServer for units that only need file space. Units who subscribe to
MyOwnServer are provided with a server shared with other units. Because
this server is shared, use of the server is limited to file space,
queue-based printing, user-based ZENworks for Desktops functionality
and other shareable services. If you have questions about whether a
service is sharable, contact myserver.support@umich.edu. Departments
needing greater functionality should consider MyOwnServer (described
above).
