They are ways in which the U-M is leveraging the central Windows/AD infrastructure to provide services. This development is being done in a variety of ways, some by ITCS, some by campus units and many by collaboration between ITCS and campus units.Common Campus Exchange ServiceITCS is developing an Exchange service for campus units who wish to offer their users the benefits of Exchange without running the servers themselves. This work is being done in collabortaion with CAEN and LSA.UMRoot Forest SMS implementationLSA has a highly developed SMS implementation. As they move from operating within their own domain to being part of the UMROOT domain, they designed the SMS infrastructure within UMROOT to meet their own needs and at the same time providing an infrastructure that other campus units can take advantage of.Virtual Campus Computing Sites through Terminal ServicesCampus Computing Sites is developing a Virtual Site to allow users to have the experience and advantages of using a Campus Computing Sites Windows computer without physically sitting at one. This implementation will use Terminal Services and will be developed in conjunction with LANNOS staff.Live Communications ServerThe Ross School of Business, in partnership with CAEN and LSA are deploying a Live Communications Service to give their community access to secure instant messaging and other collaboration tools. In the spirit of campus collaboration, this effort is also being carried out with larger campus involvement and potential implementation in mind.
