Maintenance Policy for the U-M Windows Forest

When feasible, maintenance to servers in the central UMROOT and UMICH domains will be performed within the following maintenance windows. In some situations, the importance of applying maintenance in a timely manner may take precedence over scheduling the maintenance according to the published schedule. The integrity of the forest is the primary consideration, superceding all published schedules.

Maintenance Procedures

  • Scheduled maintenance will occur between 5 pm and midnight.

  • All non-emergency maintenance will have 2-5 days notice.

  • Emergency maintenance will be done as necessary to insure the integrity of the forest. If possible, emergency maintenance will be done at a less inconvenient time, like lunch, before 8 am or after 5 pm. However, in some cases it will be necessary to do so during business hours.

  • All maintenance and outages will be reported through the ITCS Service Status web page and via email to the UMOD group umroot-notify@umich.edu. To receive email notification of maintenance and outages, join the umroot-notify group at directory.umich.edu.
