Why we started:
Michigan is home to one of the
largest expatriate Lebanese communities in the world. Over
the course of at least three generations, our community has
grown and blossomed, owing in large part to the increasing
number of Lebanese Americans entering institutions of higher
education. During the last fifteen years, the Lebanese
Student Associations in universities across the state (as
well as the Midwest) have been essential in providing the
landscape for these pioneers of learning to build the skills
necessary to succeed in competitive environments. LSA
members have graduated to become doctors, surgeons, lawyers,
consultants, auto engineers, ambassadors, philanthropists,
and groundbreakers in almost every professional field.
Our vision:
As the Lebanese community
continues to grow, it is essential to maintain active
communication between Lebanese college-level students. Once
students graduate to pursue careers elsewhere, Lebanese
communities of their peers can make the transition into the
professional world easier wherever they go. Lebanese
collegians will benefit from the support system of familiar
faces-- even if they are hundreds of miles away from their
college campuses or hometowns.
For these reasons, LSA has
organized the Annual Independence Day Gala. Every year,
students from across the state will have a chance to build
bridges between their respective communities in order to
strengthen the Lebanese community as a whole. Eventually, we
hope to expand the Gala to include Lebanese students from
across the Midwest region. The possibilities in
strengthening Lebanese representation politically and
professionally are endless once Lebanese students form a
community across city, county, and state lines.
This year's gala is our third,
and we have an impressive agenda prepared to make the night
one to remember. |
