In the Spring of 1998, three ladies came together and discussed the idea of starting a chapter of a national Latin sorority on the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor campus. They began an exhaustive search to find the one that would best meet their needs and the needs of their community. By the end of the semester, after much discussion, the three ladies had decided on Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., and began the process of gathering information and starting an interest group on the UM campus. One of these three ladies was Eva Peña.
When the Fall of 1998 arrived, the three ladies were still determined to start the interest group and continued to work toward their goal. Through recommendations from friends and community members and new friendships forged that semester, five new ladies were asked to join the unofficial interest group. These five women were: Raquel Casarez, Summer Del Prete, Monique Plaza, Nasreen Syed, and Andrea Ramirez. In January 1999, these "8ladies", as they came to be known, had their first informal meeting at a Chicano History Week cultural dinner in the Nikki Giovanni lounge in the Mosher-Jordan Residence Hall.
Within the next few weeks, the "8ladies" worked together to become an official interest group of Lambda Theta Alpha. One of the original three ladies would leave the group. But the "8ladies" remained intact when Marisa Cortez became a member, soon after. In March 1999, the "8ladies" became the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. at the University of Michigan.
As an official interest group, these eight ladies worked hard with community service projects, fundraisers, and most importantly, they worked hard to become close friends. Their presence was known on campus, and they established ties within the University and the community.
As they entered the Fall of 1999, the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. felt they needed to expand and recruit others for the interest group. They held an informational to introduce themselves and the organization to any potential interests. After this informational and subsequent meetings, two ladies were added to the interest group. One of these ladies was Andrea Pérez.
The group continued to work hard toward their goal of sisterhood throughout the semester. Their goal was reached on January 23, 2000, when Beta Omicron Chapter was founded.
They became part of the Spring 2000 line along with Beta Mu - University of N. Texas-Denton,Beta Nu - University of Texas - Arlington, Beta Xi - San Jose State University, and Alpha Gamma - Texas. Eight ladies became sisters along with their nine linesisters from Eastern Michigan University, Beta Pi Chapter. The eight Founding Sisters are:
As the chapter aged, working and upholding the principles of Unity, Love and Respect be it through fundraising, community outreach or academic excellence, it soon came time for a new groups of ladies to work and persevere towards the goal and carry on the principles of the Sisterhood. Through much work and dedication, The New Generation - Line One Spring 2001 with five dedicated ladies forged into the unknown and reached their goal of Unity, Love and Respect. These ladies are:

These ladies are the beginning of a long line of ladies that will continue the traditions of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Beta Omicron Chapter.
Together they will work to better the minority community at the University of Michigan, and hope to offer diversity and choice to any and all ladies who are in search of sisterhood, service, a love of all cultures, and who can abide by the principles of Lambda Theta Alpha...
