[2001.10.24] - We're still breathing

The LUG is still around, and we're still a U of M group, but the interest this year has been non-existant so far, and I just can't drive this group on my own without some sort of user support or feedback. I still encourage all of you to join our mailing lists as those are active, but we won't be having any meetings for a while it looks like. If interest picks up and people ask for a meeting, I won't hesitate to hold one, until then I wish you all happy Linuxing. Thanks.

- Adam

[2001.04.23] - See you next semester!

The UMLUG will meet again starting in the Fall. However, our mailing lists remain functional throughout the summer. Thank you for a great first year. See you all soon, and have a great summer.

[2001.03.15] - Public key cryptography and RSA followup

You can download Bruce Fields' RSA Perl tools (as a gzipped tar file) or just read the README file. Also, you may be interested in reading a paper Marius Beriksen mentioned during the meeting: Ken Thompson's Reflections on Trusting Trust, which explains why it's in practice impossible to use a modern operating system without trusting a lot of people.

[2001.03.08] - LUG Meeting: public key cryptography and RSA

There will be an LUG meeting on Wednesday, March 14th in room 1003 of the EECS building. The meeting is scheduled to be held from 6 pm until 8 pm. The actual presentation will probably not take up the whole time, and so any remaining time will be devoted for general Linux discussion for anyone who would like to stay. This is a very fascinating subject and the presentation is bound to be great. Hope to see many of you there.

[2001.02.20] - Upcoming meeting update

The time, date and location of our upcoming meeting has been finally set. There have been some minor problems due to which things got confirmed so late. The meeting will be tomorrow, February 21st, in room 3427 of the EECS building, from 6 pm until about 8 pm. Please note that this room is different from the one we met in last time. We will be holding a discussion of Eric S. Raymond's presentation as well as his written works. All are more than welcome to attend. Hope to see you there.

[2001.02.13] - Webpage update, upcoming meeting

We decided to change the look of the page a bit, hope you like it. Also, the LUG meeting last week didn't have as many attendees as we wanted, and so we decided to postpone the ESR discussion for our next meeting which sould be at some point next week, probably wednesday. Please check back for the final date, and we hope to see you there.

[2001.01.30] - Upcoming Meeting

We have an upcoming meeting on Wednesday, Feb 7th from 6pm until 8pm or so, in room 1005 in the EECS building. Read more about it on the Events page.

[2001.01.16] - Tex

Notes from UMLUG member Bruce Fields' TeX talk can be found here: http://www.umich.edu/~bfields/tex_resources.html. TeX is a useful type-setting program that is used a lot for anything from rendering mathematical formulas to creating origami CD cases.
