HISTORY
MAFA started as a concept in the fall of 1995 at Marquette University with the Bayanihan Student
Organization. The members of that group attended the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue
(FIND) Conference at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. Their favorable impression of the
unity shown by the predominantly East Coast schools represented made them want to bring that
type of feeling to the Midwest. They organized the first MAFA conference held March 22-24, 1996.
They brought in almost 100 representatives from six universities from Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.
This year, we are expecting almost 400 participants from schools as far west as Missouri and as far east
as Massachusetts.
