Instructor Bio

Mariana Galassi was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she started dancing Tango in 1998. There she trained intensively with Chicho Frumboli and Lucia Mazer, Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa and Gustavo Naveira. Her background also includes modern dance, ballet and contact improvisation. As a member of the "Ana Kamien Dance Company" she performed in Buenos Aires most renowned theatres.

In 2000 Mariana moved to New York City where she currently teaches and directs the Argentine Tango Program at Sandra Cameron Dance Center. Still based in New York, she continues to travel throughout the United States performing at different venues and teaching workshops in Los Angeles, Saint Louis, Boston, Washington DC, Hawaii, Providence, Albany, Ithaca, New Orleans and Houston, to name a few. She has also participated as a dancer and teacher in several Tango festivals including the prestigious International Congress of Argentine Tango in Buenos Aires (CITA) , Chicago Tango Week, DC Tangosutra, Washington Tango Marathon, New York City Summer Tango Festival, Baltimore Tango Festival, Portland Valentango and Portland Tango Fest. As a performer she participated in several shows including "Romance De Tango" by Leonardo Suarez Paz, "Tango Glamour" directed by world-renowned pianist Polly Ferman and the "New Generation Dance Company" . Currently she is a cast member of the Company "Tango Century XXI", directed by famous bandoneonist Romulo Larea, with which she toured Canada and USA finished the 2009 season with a presentation on Broadway at the Town Hall Theatre.

The strong connection she establishes with her partner, together with her own fluidity of movement and deep musicality, serve to contribute to her unique and sophisticated style. While she remains true to the spirit of traditional Tango, her personal interpretation of the dance makes her one of the most distinctive and exciting dancers of the new generation.
