In this 7 week series, Chris and Jennifer will emphasize posture, frame, lead/follow, crusada, parallel and cross system walking, ochoes, pivoting, and smoothness--all of which will form the foundation for sequences like the club basic, ocho cortado, parada, rock step, promenade, and floor navigation. Also, if time permits, musicality will be demonstrated while using this subject matter.

This class will try to build on the material taught in the Beginner Series class. To take this course, you must have taken the beginner series or danced tango for at least 3 months.

You are encouraged to stay after the lesson and dance with others during the practica (typically from 9:30pm-11:30pm), since that is what you will be doing in a social dance setting anyway. Practica has a more informal and less intimidating atmosphere than the milonga. This is a good opportunity to work on your dance skills and get/give help from/to others. Also dancing with more people will help improve your dancing much faster than dancing with the same person.

At the end of the series of 7 lessons there will be a field trip to one of the local milongas (tango dance parties) - kind of a graduation party! Details will be provided in the class.

Please see the schedule for the latest information on lessons and other events. If you have questions or comments, please send email to umtango@umich.edu.
