Reading/Discussion
Groups
Understanding
"why" is important. We want to be thoughtful about our faith
and think deeply about the integral relationship of our faith and our
academic programs. It matters greatly!
At times
graduate students in MCGrads will form a Reading / Discussion Group
to investigate a relevant topic and seek to understand it from a Christian
perspective. Possibly discuss a topic relevant to your own discipline
with other Christians in your department? Maybe there's a topic that
doesn't specifically arise in your discipline that interests you? Or,
a wider topic that relates or impacts us all as Christian graduate students?
A Reading / Discussion Group is perfect for investigating it and gaining
insight.
Groups
can meet for a short, defined time period or be on-going throughout
the academic year. Some have met weekly; others less frequently. Often
the group will read a book together and discuss the chapters and applications
together.
Three great
books for a Reading/Discussion Group are:
·
Os Guinness' The Call: Finding and Fulfilling
the Central Purpose of Your Life.
·
Tim Down's Finding Common Ground: How to Communicate
With Those Outside the Christian Community...While We Still Can.
·
J.P. Moreland's Love Your God With All Your
Mind: The Role of Reason in the Life of the Soul.
Maybe you
can participate as we seek clarity to discern truth and be pleasing
to God through our minds and lives?
