Working Drawing for the Weaving Halloween Event By Sherri Smith
This working drawing for the weaving Halloween Event helps to show the way in which a complex image is transferred from sketch to finished piece. In this case, the drawing is a mirror image of the final piece because Sherri had to weave the pattern upside down. The complexity of the piece necessitated weaving it in strips, and as a way to ensure that the strips matched one another, sections of the drawing were placed underneath the weaving and then drawn on the warp to guide the weaving process.

Sherri Smith is a professor at the School of Art and Design working with textiles. A practicing artist for over 30 years her work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Contemporary Crafts Museum in New York, and the Centre International de la Tapisserie in Switzerland, among many other venues.
