Travel Information

The Great Lakes Strings Conference will take place in the Physics Department at the University of Michigan.  The department is located in the adjoining buildings West Hall, Randall Laboratory and Randall Addition.  All conference talks are scheduled to be in the conference auditorium, 340 West Hall.  A map of the University of Michigan Central Campus (as well as driving directions) is available from the Campus Information Center (select the Central Campus map).

Parking is available at Campus Inn and other hotels within walking distance - see the accommodations page. If you are driving to campus, there are public parking structures located on Forrest St and on Maynard St. at the rate of approximately $0.60 - $1.00/hour. Parking on the campus of the University is tight.  Additional parking information is available from the Campus Information Center Parking in Town page or the University Parking Services Visitor Page.

Airport Information:

Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW, aka Metro-Wayne County) is the closest airport servicing all major airline carriers domestically and internationally. It is located approximately 25 miles east of Ann Arbor. It has non-stop flights from a number of international cities in Europe and Asia.

Taxis, shuttles and rental car agencies are available. Estimated shuttle cost is approximately $30 round trip, taxi fare approximately $45 one-way; both forms of transportation accept cash or credit cards. Shuttles or taxis are recommended. Reservations are not required from the airport to Ann Arbor, however, reservations are necessary from Ann Arbor to Metro Airport. Driving time is approximately 30-45 minutes. For those flying and staying in hotels near campus, we recommmend shuttle or taxi transportation, as a rental car is not necessary once in Ann Arbor.
