Limited Access to West Hall Building on Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day)
Due to Memorial Day being a holiday, the buildings will be locked. There is only one entrance to West Hall that can be electronically unlocked outside of regular business hours. You will need to access West Hall on Monday, May 28th from the North entrance. This will be the ONLY entrance door to West hall open for access on Monday. Warm Breakfast Available at #340 West Hall each Morning from 8:30-9:30am
A full warm breakfast will be made available for all registered guests each morning of the program beginning at 8:30am. There will be a full hot breakfast, drinks, hot tea and strong coffee available so be sure to come for breakfast as there will not be breakfast available at the hotel or dormitory.
Check-in at Lecture Auditorium #340 West Hall
Talks will be held in lecture auditorium 340 West Hall (3rd floor). You will need to pick-up your packet and name badge from the registration table in the hall outside of the lecture room.
The University of Michigan played an important role in the development of quantum physics by hosting the famous Michigan Summer Schools, which ran from 1928-1942 and featured distinguished guest lecturers including Bohr, Dirac, Fermi, Heisenberg, and Pauli. In recognition of the role of the Michigan Summer Schools, the American Physical Society recently commemorated U-M's Randall Laboratory as a historic site. In the spirit of the historical Michigan Summer Schools, we continue this tradition with a series of lectures by world leaders in the areas of quantum information and precision measurements which are aimed at graduate students and others that have been exposed to quantum physics at an introductory level. These lectures are intended to introduce students and postdocs getting started in the field of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics to the foundations of quantum mechanics as related to current frontier research. Short contributed talks by selected participants and poster sessions will be organized for communication on more specific topics in this field. In order to encourage student participation, there is no registration fee and lodging in shared dorm rooms will be provided for accepted applicants. The school will enjoy a relaxed environment in the dynamic college town of Ann Arbor, with great opportunities for interaction between students and lecturers.
