    Summary: SIF seeks a Deputy Director/Research Director (referred to as Deputy Director) who has a background in socially responsible investing and/or corporate social responsibility issues.     Responsibilities Include:
      Management
    • Serve as a member of the SIF Management Team;
    • Run office and supervise all staff when CEO is out of the office;

    • Create and monitor organization's annual budget, work with staff on financial management.

    Responsibilities Include:
    • Manages NJ Transit's underground storage tank compliance program, including audits, troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and training of field personnel.
    • Manages NJ Transit's Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) program including training, site upgrades, recertification, and SPCC plan updates.
    • Manages NJ Transit's deed noticed properties, including biennial reporting to NJDEP, field inspection program, logging of maintenance activities, and training of field personnel.
    • Provides technical assistance to site remediation and wastewater compliance programs in design and operation of pumping systems, vacuum recovery systems, and control systems.

    Program Officer for the Environment

    SUMMARY: The Surdna Foundation, a New York City-based family foundation, seeks a Program Officer for its Environment Program. The Program Officer will report directly to the Environment Program Director. The Surdna Foundation was created by John E. Andrus in 1917 and has assets over $950 million and an annual grantmaking budget of more than $40 million. Governed by a Board of Directors that includes fourth and fifth generation family members, the longstanding values of the Andrus family - practicality, modesty, excellence, and an appreciation for serving those in need - underlie all of Surdna's work. Board and staff are guided by a Code of Ethics that outlines their commitments as "responsible, transparent, and accountable stewards of the public trust." The Foundation has five grantmaking areas: Environment, Community Revitalization, Effective Citizenry, Arts and Nonprofit Sector Support.     Responsibilities Include:

    • Maintaining a breath of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues, policy interventions, and innovations in the program's areas of focus to enhance the effectiveness of program strategy and understanding of staff and board.

    State Field Coordinator for Climate Justice Campaign

    SUMMARY: The National Council of Churches (NCC) is the leading ecumenical organization among Christians in the United States. It encompasses 35 member communions which include Anglican, Orthodox, Protestant, African American communions and historic peace churches. The Council serves as both a convener and voice for a faith constituency of almost 50 million people and over 100,000 congregations in all 50 states. It is organized around five program commissions and does extensive work in research, Bible translation, Christian education, theological and interfaith dialogue, witness through the media, and advocacy around issues of social justice and public policy. Since the 1980s, the Council and its member denominations has worked to address environmental issues from a faith perspective and for almost a decade as striven to engage and mobilize people of faith on the issue of global warming. This grant-funded field coordinator position of the National Council of Churches (NCC) will work to increase the Council's climate justice program in churches across the nation. This position is financially supported by specified contributions from our communions, individual donations, and foundation grants. No general funds are allocated to this position. If such funds are not available the position will not be continued beyond the term of current funding. The field coordinator will work out of the NCC Eco-Justice Washington, DC office. The NCC does not reimburse relocation expenses.


    Responsibilities Include:


    • In coordination with the Assistant Director for Climate and Energy, affirm and support religious and moral perspectives on climate change to religious audiences, civic leaders, and other key leaders in the climate change debate.
    • In coordination with Assistant Director, develop, refine, and implement state specific climate justice campaign strategy.
    • In coordination with Assistant Director, develop and then oversee execution of state initiative campaigns and guide other campaign projects.
    • In coordination with Assistant Director, organize outreach by senior denominational and state leaders to select civic leaders.
    • In coordination with Assistant Director, prepare trainings and briefings for clergy and lay climate leaders.
    • Recruit and engage people of faith, grassroots and "grass tops" leaders, to vocalize the religious and moral perspectives on climate and energy issues and to engage in the debate to curb the global warming crisis and conserve energy.
    • Work with the Assistant Director and NCC communications offices to report on climate justice campaign activities. Conduct media interviews and act as organization's spokesperson when authorized.
    • Provide timely reports on campaign objectives and deliverables.
    • Monitor climate change and energy legislation on a federal and when appropriate, a state, level.
    • Other duties as necessary and assigned.


    Qualifications:


    • 1 - 2 years experience as an organizer with strong recruiting and engagement skills.
    • 1 -2 years experience with issue campaigns and/or direct advocacy.
    • Capacity to convey religious messages on key policy issues to a broad range of audiences and to train others to do likewise.
    • Knowledge of climate and energy issues preferred.
    • Organized, mature, self-directed, patient, and energetic with a sense of humor.
    • Understanding of the US religious community, and an ability and desire to work with people of faith.
    • Experience assuring accomplishment of measurable objectives in campaign or other organizational
    • Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet & database, electronic communication).
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

    Western Lands Specialist

    SUMMARY: The Western Lands Specialist, reporting to the Director of Eco-Justice Programs and based in Washington, D.C., will continue the work of the Council's Western Lands program. This program aims to increase the number of churches and church institutions, such as seminaries, engaged in Western land issues through education and advocacy.     Responsibilities Include:

    • Develop an appropriate outreach and media strategy that will engage churches and church institutions such as seminaries on Western land issues, with a special focus on wilderness.
    • Develop appropriate advocacy campaigns on land stewardship issues.
    • Update web content and create active electronic network on Western land issues.
    • Present public land issue information at meetings and conferences.
    • Develop and produce additional resources on public land issues as needed.
    • Provide assistance to local and regional faith groups to address Western public land issues.

    Staff Attorney Position

    SUMMARY: New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) is seeking applications for a Staff Attorney to work on issues of Environmental Justice and Community Development (EJ). NYLPI is a not-for-profit civil rights law firm. NYLPI's staff attorneys, community organizers, and advocates engage in advocacy and impact litigation in the areas of environmental justice and community development, disability rights, and access to health care. In addition, NYLPI harnesses the resources of more than 90 of New York's most prestigious law firms and corporate legal departments to provide free legal assistance to community organizations and not-for profits. The EJ Project is committed to a community lawyering approach, which involves partnership with and the provision of technical assistance to community-based organizations and coalitions.


    Responsibilities Include:

    • The staff attorney will work closely with the entire EJ team, including other lawyers and a community organizer, to provide high quality legal representation on issues involving civil rights, environmental and land use law.
    • Legal work will range from litigation to policy work to transactional matters, such as assisting community planning efforts or working on community-driven redevelopment projects.


    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required.
    • Environmental and/or land use, civil rights experience is strongly preferred.
