Introduction to Utility Ratemaking and Rate Decoupling
Interested in energy efficiency in power generation? Ever thought about how energy efficiency policy affects utilities? If all consumers started using less energy, utilities would end up selling less energy. This means less money made. Then why do utilities encourage consumers to be energy efficient? What policies does the government have in place to incentivize utilities to encourage demand side efficiency measures? Clearly, understanding energy efficiency involves understanding policy, engineering and business.

Rakesh Sharma received his undergraduate degree in industrial management and information systems from Purdue University in 2005. He has worked in supply chain, business development and information systems across the consumer goods, retail, technology and energy industries. An avid wolverine football fan, Rakesh is a recent MBA graduate from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and is currently a business planning and strategy manager at Consumers Energy.
