Michigan Jumps to #1 in the Land
ANN
ARBOR, Mich. - After another victory over a ranked opponent
last weekend and losses by then #1 Colorado State and #2 Sonoma State,
the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team was propelled to #1 in
the nation today according to the MDIA Division A Top 25 Poll Presented
by Shamrock Lacrosse. Michigan earned 22 of 30 first-place votes.
Last weekend
Michigan defeated #16 Oakland 13-5, while CSU lost to #4 BYU and Sonoma
State fell to #12 Utah. Michigan is enjoying their first #1 ranking
since 2001, and it's only the second time in program history that such
an achievement has been attained. The Wolverines were slotted at #1
headed into the USL-MDIA National Championships after winning their
third-consecutive CCLA conference championship in the spring of 2001.
Although the
Wolverines opened the season 0-2 and then 1-3, U-M battled back and used
the lessons learned on their daunting four-game California road swing at
the start of their season. Having won 10 in a row, including five over
ranked opponents, Michigan will look to retain the #1 position as they
finish off their regular season on Saturday, April 22 at 7:30pm vs.
Michigan State in East Grand Rapids, Mich. at Forest Hills Central High
School. The game is being televised by Comcast Sports.
