Wolverines Vault to Number 1

Ann Arbor, Mich. - After opening the season with a 7-0 record and coming off a win over D-III Wooster, the University of Michigan Men’s Lacrosse team has propelled to the #1 spot in this week’s MCLA Division A Top-25 Poll.  The Wolverines jumped from the #3 position, leap-frogging #2 BYU and #3 Oregon and earning 20 of a possible 40 first-place votes.  The Shamrock Lacrosse MCLA Division A Top-25 poll can be found at www.collegelax.us under the polls link.

Last weekend Michigan defeated Wooster College, while former #1 and current #3 Oregon lost one-goal matches to #5 Colorado and #11 Arizona State (the Wolverines next opponent).  #2 BYU is coming off a win vs. Illinois.

The Wolverines are enjoying their third trip to the top of the polls.  Last season Michigan earned a #1 spot after rattling off 10 wins in a row late in the season, including five over ranked opponents.  Before that, Michigan found themselves in the top spot in 2001 as they headed into the USL-MDIA National Championship Tournament.  Michigan will look to hold on to their #1 ranking when they battle #11 Arizona State this Saturday (March 31) at 7:30pm EST at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
