Peter
Krauss's Colorado Trip Journal: Entry #1
We arrived at
the Denver airport late last night. Kirshner was greeted with hugs by
his Japanese comrades, who had arrived on an earlier flight. The trip
through America's incredibly efficient air transit system was pretty
typical. We clogged up the lines of every fast food place, tossed both
of Jamie's bags on top of the baggage claim conveyors, and answered the
usual questions from fellow travelers about the rules of lacrosse and
whether or not we're varsity yet at Michigan.
After a quick
team meeting and a quarter-mile jog down to the Silver Mine Sub Shop,
most of us crashed.
The morning
brought a couple inches of snow, so the early walkthrough at the field
was canceled. I took the opportunity to enjoy a bit of a sleep-in,
watch Sportscenter, and check out some of the recent MCLA scores. A
group of us went to scope out the field (a five minute walk across the
highway), and found a quarter-inch of standing water from the melted
snow. We'll see how that affects the game later, but we've certainly
seen worse conditions before.
For the most part
everyone is focused on the game at hand. A couple poor individuals are
mired in the middle of exam season. Doug and I had a good time
distracting Tommy from writing his final paper by supplying our own
commentary for the Masters. Colorado is a young team in a desperate
situation, so nobody is taking a win for granted. I'm personally ready
to avenge a certain football loss from 1994, when Kordell Stewart
launched up the luckiest hail mary ever. Needless to say, I have not
forgotten that travesty. |
