Kohlitz, Townsend Named Co-MVP's at Banquet

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The University of Michigan Men's Lacrosse team enjoyed their annual team banquet on Thursday night in Ann Arbor at the Campus Inn hotel.  In the process the squad handed out their 2008 team awards as voted on by the players. 

Two players tied for the Robert DiGiovanni MVP award for the first time in team history as senior captain and faceoff specialist Brekan Kohlitz (St. Claire Shores, Mich./N.D. Harper Woods) and senior captain and goaltender Graham Townsend (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) split the vote and both received the award. 

Freshman attackman Trevor Yealy (Pittsburgh, Penn./Upper St. Claire) earned the team's Offensive MVP, while Townsend also snagged the team's Defensive MVP award.  Yealy was also named the team's Rookie of the Year. 

Senior captain and midfielder Bobby Morales (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) took home the Unsung Hero award, while fellow senior, midfielder Peter Krauss (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) was awarded with a recognition for his Leadership and Inspiration. 

Senior Doug Bell (Troy, Mich./Troy) won the Commitment and Citizenship award, while fellow senior, captain Mark Hammitt (Madison, N.J./Delbarton - Boston College) earned the Wesley Martus Scholar Athlete Award.  Sophomore Josh Ein (Potomac, Md./Bullis) was named the team's Most Improved Player. 

The Maize and Blue will be back in action next on Saturday, May 3, when they travel to Saline, Michigan for the CCLA Conference Tournament.  The Wolverines earned a first-round bye, and will meet the winner of Pittsburgh vs. Central Michigan.  For complete tournament information please visit www.cclax.org.
