Michigan Buries the Cardinals, Prepares for Huge Home Weekend

3/26/00 – The 8th ranked Michigan men’s lacrosse team won their sixth game in a row today with a 29-1 victory over CCLA foe Ball State. The win improves Michigan’s CCLA record to 6-0 and their overall record to 9-3. In their last 5 games Michigan has scored over 20 goals and won by an average margin of almost 23 points per game. That should change this weekend, however, with #6 Virginia Tech, #9 Arizona and #12 Illinois coming to town.

For the 5th straight game Michigan dominated every aspect from the opening whistle. The Wolverines’ starters got only a half of action as they built a 21-1 halftime lead. Adam Denenberg (Wynnewood, PA/Lower Merion HS) led all scorers with 7 goals and 5 assists, all in the first half. Like they did yesterday against Purdue, Michigan slowed things down in the second half, moving the ball and working the clock. 17 different Michigan players scored goals in the game. The Wolverines outshot the Cardinals 60 – 10 on the day.

Ball State had trouble getting the ball into their offensive end all day as the Michigan ride held them to only 10 clears on 41 attempts. Michigan’s man-up units were also dominant, going 7 for 7 in their first perfect game in over a year.

The Wolverines return to a full week of practice beginning tomorrow in preparation for the Michigan Invitational this weekend. All eyes will be on Ann Arbor as traditional USLIA powerhouses Virginia Tech, Arizona and Illinois come to town. Each team will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a round-robin format that will have a definite impact on the poll and ultimate seedings in the national tournament.
