1/5/00 – This Saturday, Janaury 8, for the second year in a row, Michigan will host the Michigan Lacrosse Foundation Player and Coach Clinic at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse – the home of the Wolverines. Coaches from varsity programs around the country, including Craig Kahoun from Butler, Notre Dame’s Kevin Corrigan and Jack Kaley, head coach of New York Tech’s highly ranked Division II program, will be instructing Michigan high school athletes on the finer points of lacrosse technique. The clinic is run by Michigan head coach John Paul and Northwood University head coach Ron Hebert, and sponsored by Warrior Lacrosse.

Over the course of two sessions, over 200 Michigan high school players will have the opportunity to learn from some of the top college coaches from the Midwest and the East. In a change from previous formats, this year the clinic is split into two 100-player sessions to reduce congestion and increase individual attention. "We had one longer session last year, but over 180 kids on one field is just too crowded. By limiting the number of participants to 100 per session plus goalies, we’ll be able to offer a much better experience for the athletes," said Paul. "Either way, though, this a great opportunity for high school players to get indoors on a full field in the winter and learn from some of the best coaches around."

The morning session, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. will focus on the attack and defense positions, and the afternoon session, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. will focus on midfielders. Goalies will get instruction in both sessions. In addition, a coaching clinic will be held for high school coaches from 10:30 – 1:00.

Walk-up spots are still available, and the cost to register is only $60. The coaches’ clinic is free. Proceeds go to the Michigan chapter of USLacrosse, which sponsors the growth of the sport in the state. For more information, call (734) 622-9942.
