get the Cover!
1/15/00 – The winged helmet has been on
the cover of a lot of magazines, but never before has it graced the cover
of Lacrosse Magazine. Demonstrating the phenomenal growth of associate
level lacrosse, Michigan, along with seven other top USLIA programs,
appears on the cover of the latest edition featuring the preseason
previews and picks for 2000. The cover is another indication of just how
far club lacrosse has come in the past four years.

Although Lacrosse Magazine has recognized
the efforts of club programs around the country for years, the advent of
the USLIA, and the development of "virtual varsity" lacrosse
amongst its 110 teams, has drawn attention towards college club lacrosse
in unprecedented ways. With club teams now hiring full-time coaches,
operating on huge budgets, playing national schedules and even offering
scholarships in some cases – the traditional lacrosse world is starting
to take notice. Michigan has been fortunate that the program has been in
the national spotlight as much as any club team over the past few years.
Head coach John Paul said, "We have been fortunate. For whatever
reason, Michigan receives a lot of attention in the East through our
alumni and our revenue sports. That attention has filtered into our
program in many ways."
The Wolverines receive inquiries from
potential recruits daily, most from the east coast. "The exposure has
definitely helped us. We are limited to the types of players we can get by
our tuition and entrance standards, but the interest out there is
phenomenal. The cover can only help."
