Donald B. Canham Natatorium

The University of Michigan continues its commitment to athletic excellence for the 1990's with the Donald B. Canham Natatorium. Completed in 1989 at an estimated cost of $8.5 million, the Canham Natatorium is considered one of the finest college-owned swimming and diving facilities in the nation.

In the tradition of Michigan Athletics, Canham Natatorium was constructed with the intent to ensure the opportunity for Michigan's student-athletes to excel both academically and athletically. Since completion, Wolverine men's and women's swimming and diving teams have won 14 combined Big Ten Conference titles and produced numerous Academic All-Big Ten honorees.

The 59,000-square foot facility houses a 50-meter pool, eight lanes wide, which can be divided into two separate 25-yard pools by movable bulkheads. A diving well with an Olympic Tower, a hot tub and one and three-meter springboards showcases the west end of the facility.

Numerous club, college, and prep swimming and diving competitions are annually staged at Canham Natatorium. With a seating capacity of 1,200 people, the Natatorium was the site for the 1993 U.S. Open and the 1994 U.S. Junior Nationals. In April 1992, the Phillips 66 National Diving Championships, part of the Olympic Trials, were conducted at Canham, as have been four Big Ten Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

The University of Michigan's Canham Natatorium has hosted many national and conference level swimming and diving events. In 1996, the Women's NCAA National Championships will be held at Canham Natatorium for the first time. Also in 1996, the University of Michigan hosted the men's Big Ten Conference Championships at Canham Natatorium.
