Information for Football Game Days

Note: Parking prices below are for 2002 season and may change for 2003.

Athletics Campus Football Parking Map (PDF: 1 page, 252 KB)

Parking for University of Michigan football games at Michigan Stadium is very limited. The majority of the parking on the Athletic Campus is permit-only, including the Blue Lot at Crisler Arena and Blue Lot West at the corner of Main and Keech Streets. Other permit lots on the Athletic Campus include the Grey (Yost Arena), Green (University of Michigan Golf Course parking lot), Red (intersection of State Street and the railroad tracks), Triangle (area south of Crisler Arena), and Buffalo (immediately north of Gate 9) Lots, as well as those located along Kipke Drive and Greene Street.

Public parking is available at the all-weather gravel Brown Lot at the Varsity Tennis Center on State Street, bordering the southern edge of the UM Golf Course. The lot is within walking distance of Michigan Stadium, with a courtesy path running through the golf course providing a direct link between the lot and the stadium. The cost to park at the Varsity Tennis Center is $10.

Public parking is also available at the U-M Golf Course, accessible from State Street. The cost is $20 per car (RV's are not allowed); however, the parking lot is only open on a weather-permitting basis. The University's Parking Services opens the Hill Street structure, the structures and lots at Thompson and Hill Streets and Monroe and State Streets ($10), and the lot at Hill Street and Fifth Avenue, next to the Coliseum ($20) for football games. Additional public parking is available at Pioneer High School's Purple Lot ($30) on the southwest corner of Main Street and Stadium Blvd., and Ann Arbor Golf & Outing ($30) on Stadium Blvd. All day-of-game parking lots open at 8 a.m.

Parking for recreational vehicles is available for $50 ($70 overnight) at Pioneer High School's Purple Lot on the southwest corner of Main Street and Stadium Blvd. The lot is available for overnight parking starting at 5 p.m. the day before the game.

Free public parking is also available at the State Street Commuter Lot, south of the Varsity Tennis Center. (Free shuttle service is no longer offered from this lot.)

The Ann Arbor Transit Authority (AATA) offers shuttle service between Michigan Stadium and Ann Arbor hotels and motels, U-M parking structures and lots, the Michigan Union, and downtown Ann Arbor. The Football Ride, which costs $2.00 one way or $4.00 round trip per person, per game, runs approximately every 20 minutes, beginning two hours before game time, and drops passengers off at Gate 2. Shuttles run for approximately 60 minutes after the game is over and pick up passengers at the assigned location outside Gate 2. During inclement weather, such as rain or heavy snow, the shuttle will run throughout the game. For more information on the Football Ride, call AATA at (734) 973-6500.

A limited amount of handicap accessible parking for the public is available in the Purple Lot at Pioneer High School. However, this parking is not very close to the stadium and it is recommended that those who have difficulty walking be dropped off outside either Gate 2 (Varsity Plaza) or 9 before parking. For holders of football parking permits needing handicap accessible parking, please call the Michigan Athletic Ticket Office at (734) 764-0247, as special disability permits are required for the permit lots.

Holders of football parking permits should clearly display their permits from the rearview mirror of their cars to assist parking personnel in directing them to the proper lots. All drivers should be alert to instructions from the uniformed police officers who will be controlling traffic.

Patrons are reminded that normal parking regulations apply on game day. Vehicles parked in fire lanes, at the end of aisles, and in any other illegal location will be ticketed and/or towed. Please park only in designated parking spaces. If you are unable to find a legal parking space, please see a parking attendant for assistance.

After the game, Main Street/Ann Arbor-Saline Road is one-way from Michigan Stadium to Interstate 94. Two-way traffic will be maintained on State Street.

For more information on Michigan football parking or traffic, please call the Game Operations Hotline at (734) 647-9977.
