CHEMISTRY BIOLOGY INTERFACE
TRAINING PROGRAM
CBI Annual Symposium
May 7, 2005
Symposium Schedule (PDF)
Keynote Speaker:
Professor
Shana Kelley (Boston College)
Professor Kelley received her Ph.D. from Caltech
in 1999 under the guidance of Jacqueline Barton and then completed
her post-doc in 2000 with Paul Schimmel at Scripps. Her research
spans bioanalytical, biophysical, and bioinorganic chemistry. There
are four projects underway in the Kelley lab. One of which is developing
sensors applicable in the diagnosis of genetic diseases, detection
of infectious bacteria, and the assessment of DNA damage within
a cell. Efforts are also underway to prepare functionalized peptide
compounds that recognize and derivatize damaged DNA. She also studies
the correlation between mutation and structure/function perturbation
in mitochondrial tRNA that lead to disease. A multi-collaborative
effort to develop a nanoscale sensing platform that will enable
single-molecule detection of environment analytes and biomolecules
is also underway.
She was awarded the 2004 NSF Career award, the 2004 Alfred P. Sloan
Fellowship, and voted one of the top 100 innovators of 2004 by Technology
Review magazine.
Scientific discussions at the poster sessions.
