The Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan is looking to hire Graduate Student Instructors (GSI) at a 50% appointment for CHEM 125/126, CHEM 211, and CHEM 216.
CHEM 125/126: General Chemistry Laboratory I & II is a one-hour discussion followed by a two-hour lab. Selected candidates will teach two sections.
CHEM 211: Investigations in Chemistry is a 3 hour lab section. Selected candidates will teach two sections.
CHEM 216: Synthesis and Characterization of Organic Compounds is a 4-hour lab section. Selected candidates will teach two sections.
Duties include leading discussion and/or lab sections. Other duties include grading assignments, quizzes and final exams. Depending on the type of course a GSI is assigned to teach they may also be required to hold office hours. Duties vary depending on the type of course (i.e. lab versus discussion).
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry; GSI training in the UM-Chemistry Department; English proficiency, based on ELI-OET, where applicable.
Master's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
