Division Highlights

Sally Camper and Jun-Lin Guan have been newly elected fellows of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

AAAS is the world's largest general scientific society, publisher of the renowned journal of Science, and spearheads programs to promote understanding of science worldwide.

Sally Camper has been recognized for distinguished contributions to research into the molecular mechanisms of pituitary action and outstanding contributions to academic administration and education of biomedical scientists. Jun-Lin Guan received recognition for his distinguished contributions to the field of cancer biology and for services to professional societies to promote the careers of young scientists.

Stephen B. Gruber, a renowned physician-scientist from the University of Michigan, formally assumed the position of director of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Keck School of Medicine of USC on December 1, 2011.

Wendy Uhlmann received the Natalie Weissberger Paul National Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Society of Genetic Counselors at the 30th Annual Education Conference held in San Diego on October 30, 2011.

Background: The Natalie Weissberger Paul Lifetime Achievement Award is the most distinguished honor within the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). Natalie Weissberger Paul retired in 1993 after a long career with the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. A long-time advocate for genetic counselors and NSGC, she was instrumental in promoting the profession in its early years and in securing financial support for numerous initial projects and publications. NSGC established this award in 1994. Ms. Weissberger died in January 1996. This award honors one outstanding member who has served NSGC with exemplary national achievements and volunteer activities on behalf of NSGC and the profession. The award is customarily bestowed annually.
