This is not a contest. It is a $1,000 annual cash prize awarded to the author of the best short story published in MQR the previous year by the Michigan Quarterly Review Editorial Board. Established in 1978, the prize is sponsored by University of Michigan alumnus and fiction writer Leonard S. Bernstein, a trustee of the Lawrence Foundation of New York.
