GLOBAL BLUE - BBA2

BBA1 Section 5

by Cynthia M. Haupt, BBA1

Vomit, bad jokes & too many GB announcements ... That's how our week went! If we weren't passing out form the stench, we were zoning during the Sears spiel. Did anybody get it ... Does anybody ever?

The results are in from the survey. "Habitat for Humanity" received two votes for financial support. Once internship offers have been extended more of you can choose to donate ... Which reminds me, "Congrats, Kyle!" A ton of you volunteered for manual labor for the B-school's sponsored house, but a couple of you are cheapskates would rather we market the poor as popsicles!

Many of you are interested in e-mailing MBAs about their job experiences. The MBA/BBA directory will be out in a couple of weeks. By the by, no wonder we have no class spirit, our whole section is Finance & Computer geeks! Just Kidding! Geesh!

Just one more thing would any more of you be enticed to play softball if Evenett was up to bat? I wonder if he likes Banana Creme ... See ya!

MBA1, Section 1

How 'bout Section 1 and the Follies! We had Richard and the band, Renee and Elaine as overenthused interns, Elaine dancing, Tracy as a high-powered recruiter, Elaine in another skit, Eric H doing his Top Ten list, Brian M doing a Elvis-esque dance, and Elaine singing! Of course, the Follies could not have happened without John S helping with tech and Erin M. helping with sound.

And then there is Professor Ashford who might be able to start her own prop company -- phones, satellite intercoms. Sorry, Alberto, I guess Chang doesn't carry a beeper!

So, internship interviews are in full swing. We're grabbing any class we can get to as we all work around our interview schedule. But, some people have already heard where they are going ... congrats also to Section 1-ers who reportably received over half of the highly-coveted slots for D&T's internships!

OK, Sally ... give us some hope that closed lists aren't completely random and explain to us how you got on a high-profile investment banking firm's closed list without one mention of Finance on your resume?

We'll all be heading off to all corners of the globe in a few weeks for MAP, but I think the coolest project is Mita's: her IMAP team is going to Vietnam. Now, I don't know anything about their project, but how cool will it be for her next fall when we're interviewing and Mita gets to answer questions about IMAP with, "Well, back in 'Nam..."!

The Net Geek of the Month award goes to David Sanvido, whose web page opens to a Java animation of a devil's eyes and the fires of Hell and the ominous slogan: "In a few moments you will be entering David's World." Yipes! Is that anything like Wayne's World? Excellent. See is at www.umich.edu/~dsanvido.

Good luck with interviews and internship-searching. Less than a month to Spring Break!

After a long break of more than a month, this column is back by popular demand. (Yeah! Yeah! I am sick of all the snide remarks that I heard with the most innovative one being "Are you not writing the column as your fingers are frozen because of the cold?") Well after reading about Andrew Fr.'s litany of complaints about the cold in previous editions of the MSJ, I wonder if he has found a magic potion that would keep him warm during class? Have you noticed that he is no longer bundled up in class but is quite nonchalant in just a sweatshirt and sweatpants?

Well on the subject of transitions during the break, two of our very own decided to make their attached status official. If you haven't noticed by now, quiet and demure Tiffany L has a shining piece of stone embedded in platinum on her marriage finger. And also, our star quarterback, Shawn K popped the BIG question to his girlfriend over the Christmas break and she, after careful consideration of Shawn's future earning potential as a Michigan MBA, readily agreed. On behalf of the section, I would like to extend our heartiest congratulation to both the couples.

On a much more sour note, I am going to recount the sad story of Darron S. It seems that when Darron went to the West Coast Forum, he lent his car to Andrew (Poet) Fi. Upon his return, he not only discovered that his car had been towed, because in a reverie, the poet had parked it in the wrong spot, but upon paying moocho bucks to get his car back from the impounded car lot, his car died on the way back home. I hope that this bad luck was not an indication on the type of luck Darron had during his interviews out west.

It seems that the preponderance of ding letters that most people are getting has soured the camaraderie in our section. No wonder, Dave L could not trust leaving his laptop at his desk when he went to the front of the class during OB. I hope that these doldrums vanish soon. I hope everyone enjoyed the FOLLIES!

by Marco "Claus" Rosenbaum, "Elf" Maurice Herrerra, and Gadge "Grinch" Sandhu

Ho, ho, ho am I tired. I just had to fly around the world again to pick up all the rejected toys that the little X*O%$& didn't want, and my back is aching. While I get Elf Maurice to pour me some medicine, here's a list of holiday favorites and nightmares:

Favorite holiday toy: Tickle Me Elmo; Least Favorite holiday toys: Tickle Me Gadge, Anatomically Correct Jeff S. Hand Puppet; Favorite holiday video "Toy Story"; Least favorite holiday videos: "Camping with the Frugal Gourmet and René", "Anatomically Correct Jeff S. Hand Puppet --The Movie"; Favorite holiday album: "An Elvis Christmas"; Least favorite holiday albums "Haesemeyer in Vegas", "Andy W. Sings Bolton", "Greg J. and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Unplugged"; Most popular party guests: Colm M., Bob Dole; Least popular party guest: Shing Wu's evil twin Tony; Most popular party games: Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly; Least popular holiday games: "Pin the Toupee on Ronaldo", "Take Carlos Hostage --The Board Game"; Favorite holiday book: Book of Inspirational Stories"; Least favorite holiday books: "Sleep Your Way to Consulting" by Gerry B., "Successful Strategies for Brandmaps" by Joanna P., "Understanding My Offer: Behind the Numbers in My Next Year's Pay Package" by Gadge.

Wasn't that amusing and socially relevant? On to some section news:

Marc A. drove home on his bicycle slightly under the spell of the grape the other night and decided that he didn't need to lock it up because "no one ever goes by my back entryway anyway." His bicycle was stolen that evening. The upshot: Marc A. is now tougher on crime than Pat Buchanan.

Congratulations to Jeff S., who got engaged to his girlfriend Andrea last week. Congratulations also to Marc A., Astrid M. and Gadge, all of whom also got engaged to their respective mates. Best of luck to all them!
