Nick Relief Awards

by Nick Corsetti, MAcc

Yes, I know. There are probaby four different mock award articles this week, but due to the heavy slant of the others toward MBAs, I felt the B-school needed some type of award to honor the rest of its distinguished members. Another reason these awards are a little bit different is that they were not done democratically -- meaning I did not take any surveys or count any votes. These honors simply represent my opinion, along with input from a few of my friends in a couple of isolated circumstances. So without further ado, here are the first annual Nick Relief Awards.

* Best Nick Relief Fan -- Karen Zaruba -- The first unbiased opinion of my article anyone ever gave me.

* Nick Relief Role Model Award -- Mitch Fisher and Joel Makowsky (tie).

* Most Attractive BBAs -- Lynne Berwald -- This was one of the tougher decisions. Bryan Cantio -- "Il sole sicialiano le ha cotto il cervello."

* Most Attractive MBAs -- Alexandra Samios -- I love that name. Bob Patterson -- I know we are not really MBAs, but there aren't many guys I feel comfortable giving this to.

* Most Improved -- Greg Peterson -- You can barely tell he's the same person.

* Sexiest Actress of the Century -- Natalie Wood -- I would have taken a few bullets for her.

* Biggest Co-Dante Calabria Fan Award -- Dan Piccirillo -- Who's the second best Italian college basketball player?

* Mark Spitz Award -- Steve Zvonek -- No explanation is necessary here.

* Leo Bascaglia Award -- Jeff Martin.

* Quickest PowerPoint Clicker Career -- Leslie (Quick Click) Erlich -- I thought that was such a cool nickname. It ryhmes with Nick to boot. I had to get in here.

* Sicilian of the Week (April) -- Chris Peracchi -- Congratualations on being elected president of the Finance Club. Thanx to Mike York for the tip.

* Professor with the Most Connections -- Linda Lim.

* Professor in Whose Class I've Had the Most Embarrassing Moments -- Steve Slezak -- yeah, that was me who walked in during the last minute of class a couple of months ago.

* Taking Care of Business Award -- Mike Myszkowski -- enough said.

* Ordinary Joe Smith Award -- Chuck Mault -- we aren't letting you forget that one.

* Most Leadership Skills Award -- Jason Mahoney.

* Best Test Taker while Hungover-- Mark Betker -- I am not sure how you do it sometimes.

* Best VITA partner -- Tim Hunt -- too bad we didn't have time to do that again.

* Coolest Armband in College Sports -- Dante Calabria -- he wins for having the initials, "CS" on his armband.

* Best Humor Columnist in the MSJ -- Jason Koenig -- he was the only one to last for the entire year.

* Best non-Business School roomate -- Brian Ankrapp -- here is the token engineering salute.

* Favorite Accounting Professor -- Jim Wheeler -- I have to admit I am biased due to my IRS affiliation.

* Favorite Non--Accounting Professors -- Anne Harrington -- this award should be shared by my entire LHC 560 class. Mohan Sodhi -- has done his best to help us feel comfortable in an unfamiliar environment.

* Most Promising Professor -- Jim DeSimpelare -- already one of the best professors I've had.

* Professor who I miss being picked on by -- Ram Natarajan -- it's just not the same when I fall asleep in other classes.

* Professor who will be missed the most after retirement -- Carl Griffin -- I'm glad I was able to take 317 while he were teaching it.

* Best Quarterback in the NFL -- Randall Cunningham -- I had to get one last Randall blurb in here.

Finally, I would like to thank everybody at the MSJ for being as helpful and understanding with me as they were, although I wish my name could have been in the staff credits at least once. And I would also like to thank everyone who read my article on a consistent basis and especially those of you who responded back to me. I am looking forward to being back here next year and getting some more humor out at you all.
