A familiar tournament, a new location, and near similar results. Michigan traveled to Florida to attempt a repeat of their 2006 title. The team started out in group play against Boston College and Kansas State. With a tie against Boston College and a win against Kansas State, the team advanced to the single elimination brackets.
The first round in the brackets was against Texas. Texas showed that they were an extremely talented team and the gamed remained 1-1 at the end of the second overtime. Michigan was able to advance in a nail biting finish over Texas winning 4-3 in penility kicks.
The next game was against UCLA. Although Michigan looked in control most of the game UCLA was able to keep the game 1-1 and push the game to penalty kicks once again. Once again Michigan was able to squeak out a win in the shoot out 9-8.
The next game and semi-finals was against Texas Tech. The game was hard fought with both teams obviously worn from a long weekend of soccer. Although it looked like Michigan might be able to push it to penility kicks at the end, it was not to be. Michigan ended up just short 2-1 to end their season.
The team knew what had to be done,
and they did it. After a
questionable start tying Western 2-2, the club came out strong against
Ohio
State. The game was hard fought but Michigan ended up on top 3-2 to
advance out
of the round robin part of the tournament. The next game was against
the number
1 power ranked team in the region, Indiana. More motivated then ever
the club
started strong scoring three goals in the first half from Tom McCurdy.
The club
stayed on top to win 3-1 to advance to the finals against Wisconsin
Milwaukee.
The final game was a very good game against two teams exhausted from a
weekend
of hard soccer. Both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. Brent
capitalized
on a free kick to give Michigan a lead that they were able to win the
Regional Tournament.
Overall Michigan played some of its best soccer of the year, and was
able to
beat three previously undefeated teams (Ohio State, Indiana, and
UW-Milwaukee)
to win the Regional tournament.
On to Florida boys...
Michigan's regular season is over with a record of 8-2-2. Although a good record Michigan will have to win the Regional Tournament for any hopes of going to Nationals in Florida.

Summary:
W - Purdue (5-2)
Overall Regular Season Record: 8-2-2
The game started off looking pretty bad for Michigan. At the very beginning of the game IUSB was awarded a free kick from about 35 yards back, and got a lucky bounce to put them up 1-0. Michigan responded eventually scoring two before half from Tom McCurdy and Jason Riley. After Michigan got the goals and calmed down, they were able to control the game fairly well. With two more goals in the second half from Tom McCurdy and Matt Hecker, Michigan won 4-1.
Michigan vs Buter -Oct 13
Michigan and Butler squared off later in the day, and although it was the second game of the day Michigan seemed for the most part ready. Although both teams battled back and forth and what seemed like Michigan control of the game, neither team was able to score, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Michigan vs Ohio State Oct 14
Michgian faced Ohio State for the first time in recent years away. It was clear from the beginning that Ohio State had a good team, and Michigan never seemed to get enough energy to compete with them. Michigan went 2-0 and although a burst of energy after the second goal never scored.

The second game on sunday was against Western Michigan University. As always the game was very physical. Both teams had opportunities throughout the match. Aaron Swick scored in the final minutes in the game allowing Michigan to win 1-0. Tucker had a spectacular match in goal coming up with many big saves including an incredible diving save to secure a shut out.
Summary:
W - Grand Valley State (4-0)
W - Western Michigan University (1-0)
Overall Record: 5-1
On Sunday the team met what most would describe as a new team from Eastern. Although a quick goal to start the game off from Ike made it seem like it might be a blow out, Eastern's club team proved to be quite a match. The score remained 1-0 until Brad Murphy decided to duplicate a goal that was called offsides earlier in the match put the club up 2-0. And with a goal from Tom towards the end of the match the final score was 3-0.
Summary:
W - Ferris State (4-0)
W - Eastern Michigan (3-0)

Summary:
W - Illinois State
