MUSIC OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Executive Editor The American Musicological Society (AMS) seeks an Executive Editor for MUSA (Music of the United States of America), a national series of scholarly editions funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the University of Michigan, as well as the AMS. Duties will begin on or around January 1, 2010, or at another time to be negotiated, and continue through future grant cycles. The editor's responsibilities, under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief, include the following: 1. Soliciting, evaluating, and developing volume proposals, shaping manuscripts, and soliciting expert evaluations of proposals and manuscripts from designated referees; 2. Maintaining regular contact with volume editors, assisting and advising their work as needed, and ensuring that they complete their work in a timely fashion; 3. Serving as the principal copyeditor and proofreader of MUSA volumes; 4. Acting as liaison between the AMS Committee on the Publication of American Music (COPAM), the Editor-in-Chief, volume editors, and the publisher, A-R Editions, Inc., as well as with the AMS, Society for American Music, and the American Music Institute at the University of Michigan; 5. Supervising graduate student assistants in a variety of tasks and fostering their scholarly development; 6. Maintaining complete financial and project records as well as files of correspondence and other documents and materials related to the series, including the project database; 7. Seeking, on COPAM's behalf and according to its directions, subventions for series volumes as appropriate; 8. Maintaining and developing the project web site and other publicity vehicles; 9. Teaching one course per academic year on some aspect of American music at the University of Michigan School of Music. Candidate should have advanced training in musicology and specialization in American music, with Ph.D. or equivalent experience preferred. EOE/ADA.
