ABOUT US
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT/VISION
Asalaamu 'alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu,
I have been entrusted with a role from Allah swt which I can only hope to fulfill adequately in a manner that is pleasing to Him, in the service of our campus community and His deen. I seek your forgiveness for my shortcomings and ask that you assist me and, in turn, the MSA, in realizing what it pursues. Insha'Allah we will have a phenomenal year, one that will bring us closer to each other in brotherhood and sisterhood, and that will ultimately bring us closer to Allah swt. This time that we are given, specifically these years that we are enjoying the blessings of college life, will soon come to pass and we will move on to the next stages of our lives. Surely our future careers depend upon our current academic and educational pursuits. But more importantly, the people we become and the things we are going to do are intimately shaped by our experiences and our close friends during this critical time. And so the MSA serves to offer a unique experience, serving your needs as a Muslim on campus, and providing strong spiritual and social networks to support your faith at a time and place when holding on to faith is like holding hot, burning coal. This is an organization for everyone, and a means to meet your closest companions, strengthen your faith, and serve the community. This is an active organization that depends on your support and your du'as. And this is an experience that you will cherish for the rest of your lives. So I encourage you to participate, get involved, and serve the deen through the MSA, the home for Muslims at the University of Michigan.
Walaikum asalaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu,
Zeeshaan Bhatti; President 2007-08
MISSION STATEMENT
The Muslim Students' Association works for the betterment of the Muslim and Non-Muslim community on campus through community service, education and social activities.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Muslim Students' Association is to facilitate a forum of education on Islam, the world's second largest and fastest growing religion, for Muslims and non-Muslims. For that matter, we hold weekly gatherings educating the audience on contemporary issues, cultural issues, historical recounts and stereotypes of Islam and much more. In addition, we facilitate a broad network of small study groups to enhance knowledge on Islam for all students. These small, personalized groups promote both intensive pursuit of information and bonding between group members. Finally, our major events, such as Islam Awareness Week, Eid Dinner, Fast-a-thon and more provide students with both exciting and illuminating experiences to broaden people's perspectives on Islam and promote the cultural, ethnic and ideological diversity that characterizes the religion. This experience-based education is untenable except in such events and perpetuates enrichment for all those involved.
In addition, the group aims to serve the community through its weekly community service projects. Our community service projects to serve both Ann Arbor and the community include cleaning the Arb, baking for the local homeless shelter, clothing/book/canned food drives, Hospice, AIDS Awareness Day, joining such groups as Habitat for Humanity, K-Grams and much more. If you have suggestions for new events or would like to get involved with our current one, please do not hesitate to contact us ( msa-eboard@umich.edu ).
