Digital Videos

The purpose of this assignment is to prepare the digital video files that you will use in subsequent biomechanical analyses for your project. There are two parts to this process: (1) converting your analog videos to digital video files (QuickTime movies) on the computer using FusionRecorder, and (2) using MoviePlayer to trim your QuickTime movie files to include only the frames required for subsequent biomechanical analysis. Instructions are provided below by the pages linked to this assignment.

IMPORTANT: You must digitize your videos on the Macintosh computers in the NMC classroom or island section. If you use any other software or computers you will have to re-digitize your videos!

Here's what you need to do in lab:

1. Create digital videos. Create a digital video file for each movement using FusionRecorder. Directions for using FusionRecorder can be found on the NMC website under Digitizing Video in the Classroom.

2. Save files in proper format. Save in SELF-CONTAINED format within the "media files" folder on your ZIP disk and name the digital video files "mova" and "movb." Quit FusionRecorder.

3. Trim movies. Launch "movie player." Open "mova" and "movb" files in movie player. For both "mova" and "movb", select "Save As..." from the file menu and name the new files "atrim" and "btrim", respectively. Be sure to select "make movie self-contained" in the "Save As..." dialog box. Save "atrim" and "btrim" into the "media files" folder. Trim the files using MoviePlayer so they contain only frames from the start to the end of each movement. Directions for using MoviePlayer to edit QuickTime movies can be found on the NMC website under Basic Video Editing in the Classroom using MoviePlayer. You must consult with your facilitator before trimming.

4. Save copies on each ZIP disk. Backup all four movie files created today to the other team members' ZIP disks.

5. Copy files to your facilitator's ZIP disk. Before leaving lab be sure to copy the "media files" folder to your facilitator's ZIP disk.

**you MUST save your movies in SELF-CONTAINED format!!

Due at the beginning of lab next week. See Class Schedule for due dates to all assignments.
