In comparing the lower body mechanics of riding a mountain biking vs. stationary cycling, we aim to better understand the process of one revolution of the leg, through movement analysis. This study carries a great deal of importance due to our present location, Ann Arbor, Michigan. In Michigan there is a harsh winter season, where the outdoor activities become limited. This causes many avid mountain bikers to turn to indoor stationary bicycles, in order to maintain their fitness level. They need to be aware of the differences involved in changing from mountain biking to stationary biking and how it will impact their body.
This movement analysis study was conducted to explore the benefits and disadvantages associated with the change from mountain biking to stationary cycling. We taped mountain biking on a grass surface and stationary biking in a recreation facility. After careful analysis of the two we were better able to answer this question
