What services will I find there?

my.umich is an innovative University of Michigan Web environment that delivers a set of services to members of the University community. The first services implemented in this environment are aimed at the needs of U-M students, although many faculty and staff find them useful also.

Initial services include:

  • e-mail: Web-based access to U-M mailboxes.

  • address book: A tool for managing frequently used e-mail addresses as well as home and business addresses and phone numbers.

  • calendar: Individuals can add events to their personal calendar. Students' course schedules are included in their calendars automatically.

  • to-do list: Individuals can maintain an online to-do list and have tasks appear in their calendar on specified dates.

  • U-M directory: A tool for searching the U-M Online Directory.

  • classifieds: Individuals are able to read and respond to items posted by other my.umich users, as well as place their own items.

  • my favorite sites: Individuals can maintain a list of favorites/bookmarks that are accessible from any computer with Web access.

  • UM.CourseTools announcements: Students enrolled in UM.CourseTools classes can find announcements here pertaining to those classes.

  • my phone service: Students living in University Housing will find their online billing statements and authorization codes pertaining to their telephone service.

  • U-M highlights: The Office of the Vice President for Communications posts information of interest to students in the University community.

  • making U-M history: This collection of historical vignettes about U-M people and events is presented by U-M's Bentley Historical Library.

  • my.umich updates: This service provides updates on new my.umich services as well as information about service status and improvements.

    Other features include:

  • customize pages: my.umich pages are customizable, users can arrange the services according to personal preferences. It is also possible to create additional customized pages with the selected services.

  • feedback: The feedback link provides a mechanism for sending suggestions and comments to the my.umich team.

  • help: Both context-specific and task-based help are included.

The my.umich technology identifies users by their login identification and offers access to the services and resources they are authorized to use. Certain features, such as Web favorites/bookmarks and the calendar, present personalized information specific to those resources. Anyone using a computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser is able to access their my.umich Web page from a U-M Computing Site, office, home, or from anywhere in the world.
