Implant Systems

Numerous clinicians have reported the successful placement of implants through osseointegration in both the mandible and maxillae. This is due largely to the efforts of P-I Brånemark and his co-workers in Sweden who introduced the concept of Osseointegration and its role in implant therapy. Nobel Biocare has built on this treatment modality and has continued the development of implant systems that are used in all parts of the world. The Nobel Biocare implant systems include the Brånemark System®, Replace® Select System, NobelPerfect™ System, and most recently the NobelDirect™ System. The clinical applications of dental implants include: a) treatment of the totally edentulous maxilla and mandible, b) restoration of anterior and posterior edentulous spaces previously occupied by more than one tooth, that may or may not be bounded by natural teeth, and c) replacement of the single tooth. There are a number of mechanical and biological considerations that can influence implant systems and their success when used in these three areas of clinical therapy. The “Center for Excellence” has chosen to direct its attention to the scientific examination of these areas of influence and report their findings on this website systems.
