The Procera® System has software that permits the technician
to design on the computer, in a virtual reality mode, a custom abutment
for every implant location in the dental arches. Width, height,
alignment, and angulations can be modified so that the implant can
be aligned to the appropriate occlusal plane. The design data is
sent electronically to a manufacturing facility where the abutment
is machined to the exact specification developed in the designing
process. The Procera® Abutment (Nobel Biocare AB, Göteborg,
Sweden) software provides the clinician with the opportunity to
obtain an abutment solution for every situation. The
abutment is designed in one of the Nobel Biocare Network Laboratories,
and fabricated in a manufacturing facility remote from the laboratory.
When completed, the Procera® Abutment is returned to the Network
laboratory for finalization of the implant restoration by the dental
technician. Custom abutments can be individually designed as single
units or multiple implant placements. The abutments can be fabricated
in either titanium or ceramic materials. A number of studies have
been conducted by Center investigators on the Procera®
Abutment System.
