15th Biennial ISN Meeting concluded in Kyoto

A well-organized and scientifically exciting program served to counter less than cooperative weather. The unremitting rain lifted briefly to allow participants to enjoy the gardens of the Kyoto International Convention Center at the time of the Banquet .

Our local hosts ran a smooth operation. Attendance, reported at the Business Meeting, was 1192 attendees. The breakdown revealed an unusually low representation from the USA. A major reason is the double-barreled problem of tight grant money and a steep drop in the value of the US Dollar against the Japanese Yen. A few scenes from the meeting you may wish to see.

The 1997 ISN Meeting to be held jointly with the ASN in Boston should, in contrast, be inexpensive for most visitors to the USA.

The dates for that meeting have been quoted in preliminary announcements as July 19-26 and July 20-26. I have it on good authority that the correct dates will be July 20-25, 1997, inclusive, that is, Sunday registration with conclusion on Fridayafternoon or evening. This information should be helpful for those planning pre- or post-meeting satellites.
